You’ve just crushed another training session. Gains were made, PRs were shattered, and your muscles look fuller than ever. You’ve got a big night in store with the missus, and you do NOT want to disappoint.
Friday night: 7PM
Romantic dinner, dancing, and a stroll around the park. Everything is smooth sailing.
Friday night: 11PM
It’s nearing midnight, but the real fun is just about to commence as you make it back to your place. Candles lit, lights dimmed, and the room temperature is just right. You slip into bed, ready to pounce, and…. “HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!”
Something’s wrong, something is very, very wrong. And no…it’s not the dog barking.
Everything is perfect, yet you can’t stand ready at attention? What gives?
You, my unfortunate friend, are yet another casualty of stim dick.
Stim dick is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection due to excessive use of high-stimulants, typically from pre workout supplements.
It’s similar to whiskey dick in that you can’t “man up” to the task. However, instead of being drunk, you’re hyped up on stimulants, and doubly irritated because you can’t perform, yet you feel like you have the fire of a thousands sounds burning inside of your to take charge.
Erections are a strange mixture of simplicity, complexity, and fragility. They’re simple in that man sees attractive girl, man get aroused. Finally, erections are also fragile in that the slightest hiccup or distraction (dog barking, baby crying, etc.) can transform a steel shaft into a shriveled up turtle in the shell in a nanosecond.
When you start introducing foreign substances into the mix such as specific stimulants that are in certain pre-workouts, the chances of things going off without a hitch drastically plummet.
For example, when you use stimulants, such as 1,3-DMAA, adrenaline is released leading to increases in heart rate and blood pressure, constriction of blood vessels, and a reduction in blood flow to your nether regions.
This culminates in your inability to achieve an erection. On top of that, various stimulants also cause a shift in your body’s natural hormone production and neurochemistry, which can lead to mood swings, anxiety, and jitteriness, all of which can further exacerbate erectile dysfunction.
The solution to stim dick is rather quite simple — cut out the hardcore stimulants, or at the very least use them exceedingly sparingly. In lieu of your favorite hardcore pre workout which contains numerous untested stimulants, try one that contains only caffeine as its energy booster.
Caffeine is incredibly well-studied and has been proven to be safe when used within reason. The same of which cannot be said of other pre-workout stimulants, such as DMAA, DMHA, or AMP Citrate.
