After wrapping up things in Texas, Zack and crew flew to “The Golden State” of California.
Take a look at the "California Part 1" video and follow Zack on the beginning of his stay on the West coast.
They landed in LA and, of course, headed straight to the gym for part two of his pump style leg workout. Afterwards we sat down with Zack and asked him a few questions about growing up and how he went from boxing to bodybuilding.
Next stop was Zack’s new favorite place, The Cheesecake Factory. Zack’s selection this time around was salmon and rice. Zack talked about bodybuilders in general and his future show plans.
He says you need to do at least one show a year to stay focused. Otherwise you’ll go to the gym and just say to yourself, “I don’t feel like training hard today. I don’t have a show till next year.” Then what happens is, you don’t improve. When we asked him what show he plans on making his pro debut he said “the Europa Super Show – Dallas, Texas (Aug. 13th & 14th).”
We asked Zack if he ever trained with Dorian and what he learned from him. “Yes intensity! I learned my intensity was only at a certain percent. I thought I was training hard, but I really wasn’t. Now I have this new trainer, Neil Hill. He took my training to a new level. He’s psycho. It’s 3 weeks between the training split. One week I do compound movements. One week I do half compound and half isolation movements. Then the third week I do isolation movements but higher volume. So it’s like every week is different. You’re hitting muscles from different angles. It’s good. It’s hard. I never trained with a guy who trains legs so hard. My legs were aching for 5 days. I couldn’t get off the toilet once I sat down.” He laughed.
When we asked him if he had a girl friend, Zack said yes. She’s very supportive. She’s into training as well. She’s a dancer. They’ve been together for about a year. Zack still prepares all his own meals though. That way he can’t get lazy and always rely on her. And he also knows exactly what he’s eating. If he screws up, it’s his own fault.
The next day Zack visited the Weider offices. Zack was recently signed on as one of Weider’s new athletes and got the full tour. He took photos next to some of Joe Weider’s legendary images etched in stone as well as the “Sandow” itself. He also got the opportunity to preview images from his recent shoot with Weider just after earning his pro card in the UK.
