Some people are afraid of carbohydrates. While carbohydrates are an absolutely necessity of a balanced diet, many of us become increasingly sensitive to them as we grow older.
I have experimented with different ratios of carbohydrates, protein and fats to see what works best for my body. However, I have come to the conclusion that I am carbohydrate sensitive. I have to pick and be creative when I choose what I can consume for a cheat meal whether I am off or on (in) season. Pro Gram Chocolate Mousse Walnut Brownies with their low carb, low fat macro nutrient profile are just the thing to counter that carbohydrate deprived feeling.
This amazingly simple recipe of Pro-Gram, eggs, and walnuts make this healthy treat tasty.
Here are some of the great health benefits of the main ingredients:
Walnuts have significantly higher amounts of omega 3 fatty acids as compared to other nuts. Scientific evidence shows that walnuts reduces the risk of heart disease and aid in lowering LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol); walnuts are one of the best plant sources of protein. They are rich in fiber, B vitamins, magnesium, and antioxidants such as vitamin E. Nuts in general are high in calories, so moderation is the key. Walnuts add a flavorful crunch to dishes; therefore I chose to add them to the brownie recipe.
Egg Whites are a good source of protein and have shown to contain essential minerals including calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc.
The egg white is also a good source of riboflavin and selenium along with essential vitamins such as folate, B12, niacin, betaine, and choline.
The yolk is certainly high in cholesterol but as with any cholesterol-rich food, egg yolks also contain essential nutrients and fatty acids. The egg white has a lot less nutrients than the yolk, but it is still a healthier choice over the whole egg.
Overall, eggs are good for the immune system and help to build strong bones.
